This is from the Swap FAQ (which is a great resource for answers to your swap questions!):
Quote
21. Am I allowed to do a personal swap with another Craftster member?

You are allowed to, but just as with Organized Swaps, we have to encourage you to be careful with giving your address out over the internet and please remember that neither Craftster nor the site administrators or moderators are responsible if anything happens to your package or if you do not receive a package.  No feedback is given for personal swaps, and there are no angels in cases where one partner never sends.  Personal swaps are "at your own risk." Do not advertise for personal swaps in a post. If you are available for personal swaps, please note that in your signature or indicate that in your profile. If you're interested in doing a personal swap with someone, contact them through a private message.

In most of the Craftster sanctioned swaps you will have one partner, it depends on how the swap is set up as some swaps you may have a small group of people to send to.  As detailed above, personal swaps are at your own risk and will not have feedback or recourse if you do not receive a package.

hi, i'm jo, and i am relatively new here.  please feel free to correct me if i've just not looked long enough to find the answers Smiley

so, i've been around this summer.  i've joined some swaps and had a blasty blast, but i am finding that organized swaps may not be my bag.  the personal swaps i've done have been far too amazing, and i think that they suite me better.

but all the personal swaps i've made were kinda chance meetings.  is there a forum for personal swappers to talk shop?  or is this idea of personal swapping done more behind the scenes?  or maybe this is an idea for a swap in general - where you post what crafts you do and supplies you have to give away, as well as crafts you want and supplies you need?  it ends up as a sort of classified ad?

i imagine it would run similar to the birthday swaps, and not really have an organizer?  somebody help me figure out what i am thinking?

The Shop the Swap may be more up your alley.  You can offer your handmade items and unwanted supplies there and post a mini wishlist.

i've seen these, and my hesitations is that the sweat shop and the shop the swap are the requirements of being in the swap.  if someone likes what i have, but i don't need their wares, then i am "settling" for things i don't really want or need.  i am involved in the ongoing wish swap, but there are only so many "mediums" i can come up with, and i am finding that some people tend to put more effort into a swap when they have a partner rather than ongoing.

i guess i would just like to see a place where people, who are interested in personal swaps, can post "ads" and connect with other like-minded individuals.

The only problem with that is that the site doesnt really condone them. Youre allowed to do them on your own but they cant really have any control over it like they can regular swaps, if someone flakes you dont get an angel and its pure risk, even though there is a level of risk with swaping to begin with. there is a spot where you can post what you receive from personal swaps though. maybe you could contact some of those swappers since they are clearly fine with doing personal swaps.

I've seen Invite Your Partner swaps on here a few times. They are similar to a personal swap, but still follow swap guidelines. Basically two people decide to swap together and join the Invite Your Partner swap together. Here's a link to one of them: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=378595.0 It sounds kinda like what you are thinking about

Yep, we don't have any forums for personal swaps because we're not guaranteeing them. I see that you have it in your signature so that's cool, if you are looking to swap for something specific you might add that too, and add what you would like to offer.
