you could always use like i tiny bit of ribbon were the straps would be and use them as er...slot things for a sturdy solid handle like some cane or coloured tubing

That is incredibly awesome. What kind of glue did you use? I'm quite tempted to try that...

That would make the coolest light fixture, are there little gaps between the sticks for light to come out?

there are! they are small gaps but there are a lot of them!

your favorite and mine, HOT GLUE! (maybe it's not your fav, i dont know, lol) i tend not to have patience for glues that take a long time to dry. lol. too many things can happen that might move things out of place.

Oh excellent I think it would cast the neatest shadows to have a light bulb inside that and hang it from the cieling. Instead of making the bottom flat I could continue the taper down to a point. Where did you get that many popsicle sticks, do they sell huge bags of them at the craft store? How many do you need?

i got mine at Michaels.  about 3 american dollars for a box of 1000! yes that's right
1-tripple zero. lol  it took me approx. 240 sticks to make mine. maybe 5-10 more than that at most. but that's counting the bottom and a flat piece for the lid.
Also mine measures 9in wide from point to point, by 5in tall. oh i'll make a pic! hehe

*here we go

WOW, I am going to Michaels tomorrow! I might make a giant one! Although I think I'll use wood glue instead of hot glue because the light bulb will make it warm and I don't want the hot glue to melt. I just love the 8-pointed star design this makes, it is vaguely japanese looking but also sort of mod, like scandanavian 60's design?

it would look cool if you stained the sticks first.  Maybe even with a few different stains.  Very cool.  Does the hot glue hold well enough?  I don't seem to have any luck with hot glue holding for me. Angry

yeah i definitely want to try staining the sticks. i wasnt sure if i was gonna be able to recreate the purse. i figured i would try to get a pattern first and then, if it went well, try staining them. so it looks like i'm on to level 2! thanks for reminding me i wanted to do that!  i really like the idea of doing different stains! i might try that. the hot glue worked great! not2old4glitter is going to try wood glue, you could try that if hot glue isnt your thing.

I bought the box of 1000 sticks today and used my Michaels 40% off coupon, heehee. So it was less than 2 bucks for the box. I like the staining idea too, Micheals  had a smaller pack with popsicle sticks stained red, blue, and yellow but I am thinking about regular wood stains like dark espresso and light maple.
