I agree with the crappy winter bit, but I must say this past winter wasn't quite as bad as the previous several one... in toronto at least.

I don't think I'm actually at the level to sew a swim suit yet, but I bought some powernet out of the blue (I guess it is kind of like swimsuit material) and I have absolutely no idea how to sew it. Any tip?
Is there any online tutorial that teaches how to sew elastic fabrics??

The bottom turned out not so bad...the top...we'll just say it would be bordering on pornographic if worn in public.

LoL!! Smiley

I bought a Simplicity bathing suit pattern and it's quite simple! Although I have to say that making it fit right is hard! I can have (a little Wink) help from my mommy for that Cheesy Yeah...I'm greatful for my sewing mom!

yeah i tried a simplicity bikini pattern, i picked the bigger bikini bottoms and they came out so low rise and tiny it was ridiculus. i never made the top because the bottom turned out bad. I'd love to find a good one piece pattern and some cool fabric and try again.

I'd love to sow my own bathing suit (I'm bad at buying clothing, so I always look for a bathing suit midseason / end of season, and then they're all out!) but I'm really intimidated by sowing stretchy stuff..  Embarrassed So I second the question if anyone know a good tutorial about it? (or what thread to get, and where Embarrassed )

No mistake on your part.  It is old.  I have it in my drawer of saved patterns.  Now that I think about it I made that pattern over 20yrs ago.  It was the early 80s and I used a cotton lycra blend to make a work out outfit.  Very "Flashdance" kind of look........  I don't recall any problems with the pattern at the time.  But that was before you could buy the clear swimsuit elastic which is so much easier to use.

I made verison A and was pleased with the fit.  I was a bit top heavy (still am) and it fit well without binding
