I'm planning on making the halter top Cleo from Knitty.  Just wanted to ask if anyone did this and how it went, or if you had any problems.  I bought the needle I need but what yarn could I sub?  Thanks. Smiley

I'm knitting it right now, or rather, finished the knitting but not the finishing.  I didn't have any problems except for the fact that knitting 2 together on both sides of the eyelet patterns made for one really ugly looking side (I solved this problem by ssk'ing instead of k2tog'ing on one side of the piece).  As for yarn substitutions, I'm sure you could get away with almost any similar weighted yarn - though I wouldn't use anything too warm or heavy for a summer top and nothing too fuzzy or slubby as you wouldn't want the stitch patterns to get lost.  I used a dk weight cotton but if I did this again I think I might go with a yarn with some stretch in it, knit the band a little smaller than called for, and not have to bother with elastic because my sewing skills are abysmal and "attach elastic to band" is just not enough information for me.  Thank goodness for Moms.  I hope that helps.  Good luck!

well i am happy to say that i too am starting the Cleo from knitty... and my oh my am i LOVING the yarn i chose.  i went with Elite Imagine in Pewter and it is so beautiful i can't stop rubbing it against my cheek.  am i a freak or what???

anyway, the pattern calls for 100% cotton, but i picked a DK (same as pattern calls for) in the MOST GORGEOUS COLOR (did i already say that??)  but it's about 50/50 cotton and rayon... hmph.

when it's time for me to sew this together, will i be able to block it?Huh??   i am wondering if water is going to wreak havoc on my top since it says "DRY CLEAN ONLY."

i will gladly gladly gladly post pictures when i am finished.   i am in love! (or maybe it's just that i'm super-hopped up on Midol.)  it's been a ROUGH few days...

p.s. Velvetcrawdad... did you finish yours?

holy living f*ck... that looks awesome.  i did finish mine (8 weeks ago or so) and let me tell you, it looks WAY crappier when you have no bust to fill it out.

velvet, you ROCK... that looks absolutely great.

Thanks!  That's the sweetest review I've gotten.

I wore it to my grandmother's house all excited and all she said was, "You made that didn't you? I can tell."    I think there may be some intragenerational knitting rivalry in my family tree  Grin
