I didn't have enough yarn leftover from making my so-called scarf to make a hat but I wanted to use the yarn up.  So I cast on 16 stitches and followed the pattern until it was wide enough to go around my head and made a headband / earwarmer.

I was worried it was going to be too small for my friend or that it was going to stretch out over time so I added two eyelets to three alternating "purl" rows towards the end and sewed on some wooden beads I got at an estate sale to use as buttons.  So all three rows can be buttoned or they can be changed to make it a bit wider.  It would probably make a good small neckwarmer too.

Oh I used two skeins of Manos and alternated the skeins every other row.  I can't get over how the colors change in different light.

But I wrote more about that on my blog Smiley http://www.egeltje.org

And in case you haven't seen the pattern this is it:  http://www.sheepinthecity.prettyposies.com/archives/000079.html
