The annual invasion has started.  We had a light freeze a few days ago, now it has warmed back up.  The freeze killed off the ladybugs usual food, so now they are swarming, looking for food, and winter shelter.  They are crawling all over my windows, walls and ceiling.  My vacuum cleaner and I are going to be very busy, until cold weather is here to stay.   And, Oh Yeah,  They BITE.

No one believes me when I tell them that ladybugs bite. I get bit every single time one lands on me. It pinches pretty bad.

If you vacuum them can you still release them outside? I can't help thinking about how much gardeners pay to have these in their yards.  Cheesy
I wonder if these are the Asian Lady Beetles? http://www.nysaes.cornell.edu/ent/biocontrol/predators/harmonia.html

Yes, they are the Asian lady beetles.  They breed prolifically, and they have pretty much wiped out the native ladybeetles, that did not bite.  They were imported by some big farms in the south years ago, and have become an invasive species.  And nothing eats them.

my mum always sprinkled sevin dust around the perimeter of the house and on the windowsills.  it's harmless to pets like dogs and cats, but do be very cautious using it around fish.  hope that's helpful.

..except one unusual child I know...

They also stink to high heaven when they fly into halogen lights!

The invasion just started here as well.  I got home, woke up the computer and was just getting ready to log onto craftster, when I heard a tell-tale sound:  beetle wings click-fluttering against the venetian blinds.  Spent the next hour sucking them up and watching to see how the h*** they were getting in.  Think I've plugged their entry....HOPE I've plugged their entry.

Gosh we had these in our house even during the winter. They are indestructable. I mean it gets cold here in Sudbury Ontario... and they still manage to survive.

Augh, I hate these things! They are so nasty, unlike the real ladybugs!

They always end up on my ceiling, and I always have to vacuum them up before going to bed because I am afraid they will land on me and bite!

I have biting-bug-phobia. Yes.
