Hey everyone!
I came up with the plan of being a peacock for Halloween. I have the dress made (still in raw format). I have over 100 feathers and i know what i want to do with the tail. The advice i am looking for is what should i do with a headpiece?? I was thinking of putting little feathers in my hair so it looks like the peacock head, but how do i attach them, and to what? I am at a loss. Any advice would be so helpful!
Thanks,
Christine

Here is the finished product! My first ever wearable sewing project!!!

Costume sounds fabulous (100 feathers!). I think a cute little 40's style hat, very small, black, on the top front of your head with some upstanding feathers the way a peacock has a crown. I had a silly argument with a friend once who said I couldn't wear a peacock costume with a dress since the peacock is male-- I never did make the costume, but I decided that if I did I would inform him that I was a liberated peahen.

I hope you post pics of the finished product.  Wink

I know, I have gotten the same response from alot of people, but i am ok with being a boy for just one day (especially a pretty one) haha. I might use your line about the "liberated peahen"! I will be a very feminine peacock... it is halloween after all!
Thanks for the advice, the little 40's hat sounds like a good idea.  I am also making a back panel out of the tiny saddle feathers above where the long eye feathers will start. I really gotta get started on all this... its the first thing i am creating other than pillows! I will absolutely post photos when its all done! Thanks  Grin Undecided

Do an image search on Google or Yahoo for peacock costume...there seem to be several examples of what you could do...there is one of a really adorable little girl that is just a scream!

Yes, i did a google search and even Asked Jeeves! I know the picture your talking about with the adorable little girl, I agree she just too precious! I do see all the examples your talking about, the problem is i can't find a cool headpiece! Last night i finally made the tail (the start of it) It came out much better than expected! I think I have shocked myself with this costume, I can't wait to start my next project!!! Cheesy Any suggestions for a newbie!

I have no advice to give but I thought about being a peacock for Halloween myself but never made a move to actually make the costume. I would love to see the finished thing and all put together. I don't know if it helps or not, because I'm not too sure where all they are, but I bought a gorgeous pair of peacock feather earrings at a place called Fred's Dollar store a few months back, if you have one of those you might want to check it out. They were only two or three dollars, I think, and I love them.

OOOOOH! i think you should keep your hair down and attach peacock feathers to the tips, just in random places. like how a peacock has those pretty "eye" shaped feathers at the end of thare tails, put them in the ends of your hair...thare's this stuff called"hair tape" at drug stores, its just kinda like floral tape, the streachy green stuff, you know? you couls even use floral tape i guess... i was thinking about doing this NEXT year...
your hair would look so pretty and feminin even though your a boy peacock.  i hope you can picture what im saying...
or something like this might work toooo  but i like the hair down idea

Personally, I'd braid them in.

Or possibly do something like this :
