So I was wondering, when we get partnered should we e-mail our partner to make sure they don't have the book we're sending? Problem is this will take away the element of surprise, but otherwise it's always possible they already have it.

I think that's a great idea. I would like to send one that someone doesn't already own, and I would like to get one I don't have! There's always surprise in what crafted item you send along with your book.

I think I'd rather be surprised...I'm not too worried about getting a book I already have...it's unlikely...but possible I suppose. hmmm...I'm torn. Undecided

My problem is that I have a ton of books. I'd love to get a great book I haven't read already.

But, maybe we can decide with our partner whether or not we would like to know what they are sending. I really don't want to send them something they already own. What if we send a list of possibilities and the partner can tell us which, if any, they have read? Then you could pick your favorite to send from what's left. Then there would be surprise and you would know you were introducing your partner to a new great book...

Maybe ask if your partner would rather be surprised? I was planning on asking my partner if she had read anything by that author, but this would only work if the author has written multiple books. (: But when partners are given, it's up to you guys to determine how involved you want to be in choosing a book your partner will enjoy; whatever you decide will be fine, I'm sure.

i save all my books too, even the horrid ones i had to read for ap english.  even if i don't like them, i like to think they give the impression that i'm well-read.  you can always buy another copy and send that one.  abebooks.com has tons of used and out of print books, and i should get my package from them today or tomorrow so i guess i'll see if it's really what i ordered.
