Ok... so I'm going to Salt Lake City, Utah next week to attend a papermaker's conference (Friends of Dard Hunter!  So excited.)  I knew that an old friend from high school lived in the area, so I called him up to see if he'd want to get together while I'm there, and he was generous enough to invite me to stay with him -- and his new wife!  I would really like to take something nice to show my appreciation of their hospitality.. and congratulations.

What I know:
They are Mormon.  I don't know much about this.
Chris (my friend) is a comedian (well, he'd like to be) and when we were in high school (graduated 5 years ago), he was very very big into music... but I think not so much anymore?
They don't have a ton of money, and live in an apartment, so probably things that dont' take up a whole lot of space would be good.

I know this is vague... I am just having "Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage" (this is pretty miscellaneous, isn't it?) and hoping you guys can help.  Any ideas, no matter how random, and even if not crafty! are appreciated.

If you live somewhere far/cool you could bring a basket of treats associated with your home city. Like, I live in Seattle so I could bring coffee, smoked salmon, etc. etc. People gotta eat and it's something that will not take up room in their place. Good luck! Smiley

Since you were friends in High School, if you have some pics of him from back in the day, you could make a mini scrapbook for him, and leave some of it plain so she could put her pics in it, too. She may not have any pictures of him from then, and would probably appreciate it. That and some homebaked goodness would be a great gift.

thanks so much for the suggestions!  These are very thoughtful ideas, and I will definitely end up using one or more of them.  Keep 'em coming, if you have anything to add...

I've heard things about people giving vintage housekeeping books as wedding/housewarming presents. Maybe you could find a really pretty one or something. They're usually pretty amusing because theyre so dated.

Maybe a food store voucher, that would be cool to receive. However, it depends on how much you want to spend. If not, maybe like a vase (that you cutomised?) or something else quite "homey" for them. As they're newlyweds they probably need some more things to make their apartment look more cosy.
