I have lovely friends. Not only do they invite me to halloween parties but they make me shoes!

My fellow-ballerina friend Hana and I have this thing with red pointe shoes. We have alllways wanted a pair, and Hana finally cracked when she grew out of her old pair. She painted them red, and put red ribbons on them for me. All of this was unbeknown to me, while I slaved away sewing red sequins on to a pair of old shoes for my Dorothy costume (for my friend's birthday party). So, Hana presents them to me and I have to tell her I've already made a pair. BUT- I have now been invited to a halloween party, and I will stop at nothing to wear those pointe shoes.

In conclusion- I need ideas for costumes that involve red shoes, be they pointe or otherwise. Ideas so far discussed are...
-Devil
-Madeline (when she wants red pointe shoes)
-The Wicked Witch of the West (before Dorothy steals them)
-Erm... a red ballerina?
-Dorothy, but not again!

Help me crafsters!

Grin have you though about being some sort of red/fire fairy? or perharps Little Red Riding Hood with a ballerina touch including a tutu for skirt?

Some other concepts I think that could work with red pointe shoes are:
- A doll
- A princess
- The Queen of Hearts
- A gypsy
- A trapeze artist

Oooh, those are good! So many ideas! Little red riding hood would be lovely, I think I have a red hoodie left somewhere....
I'm starting to consider the girl from the Helena video but with red shoes instead of black... I love her dress.

Wasn't there a terrifying Brothers Grimm story about a girl with red dancing shoes??

Oh I think I remember hearing about that story... does anyone have any info or pictures? I want to be something people ask about but is still fun to wear/make.

There was a 1940s film called The Red Shoes with Moira Shearer in. I think it's based on the Grimm story - the shoes make her dance until she dies (niiiiiice...)

If you do a Google image search there's a bunch of pics of her in a white tulle dance dress and spangly red pointe shoes.

Your red shoes made me think of a British movie from the 40s called The Red Shoes.  The movie is centered around an unknown ballerina who gets choosen to dance in a ballet based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale The Red Shoes.  During the course of the movie, the ballerina becomes torn between her unknown composer boyfriend and the overbearing director of the ballet and much drama ensues as a result.

I would recommend watching the movie if you can.  I know it's available through Netflix.  It's a very striking and famous classic movie.

I know it's corny but I think a lot of people (well girls maybe) have seen it.  I love "Center Stage" and the red pointe shoes she wears in the end with her funky ribbon hair.  I think that'd be sweet.

But I also really like the red riding hood idea and the dance-til-you-die ballet shoes story.  I think you could do some fun things like that.  Or be a dead ballerina, like all white with red shoes and then it'd be like they have blood on them or something like that.

I love the idea for the Red Shoes - Grimm Fairy tale.

In the original Snow White, they made the evil queen dance in red hot iron shoes as punishment, to dance the wickedness out of her:

"And when she saw her she knew her for Snow-white, and could not stir from the place for anger and terror. For they had ready red-hot iron shoes, in which she had to dance until she fell down dead."

"But iron slippers were heated over the fire, and were soon brought in with tongs and put before her. And she had to step into the red-hot shoes and dance till she fell down dead."
