Hi everyone Smiley

This is my first post ever, so I'm hoping you'll forgive the patheticness of it... Basically, I'm in desperate need of blokey gift ideas. It's my boyfriend's birthday in a month and I need to get him the most kick-ass present ever. I'm going to buy some stuff, but I'd also like to craft a few things because he's a sentimental kind of guy.

I'm away from home, so I'm kind of limited in supplies, but I am willing to buy as long as it doesn't put me in any more student debt... I can hand-sew fairly well, rock at origami and enjoy general craftiness... But I can't crochet, knit, or well, anything involving too much skill hehe Wink

I was thinking about maybe decoupaging a box and filling it with goodies, but what kind of stuff do you think I should put in it? The problem with crafting stuff is sometimes I think it ends up too girly... I saw a post about some rad felt stuffed toy somewhere here on craftster - too girly, yay or nay? I could make a version of that and fit it into a box of stuff I'm sure.

Little things, big things, all ideas appreciated muchly.

Love ya
K xx

Here's some info from my website that could be helpful... (the apply to polymer clay gifts, but some of the color ideas, etc., might work:

```````````````````````
(Gift ideas ... for "men")
. . . As for color, neutral or darker colors would be traditional and safe for men. Some gold or other metal looks might work, especially if they're used as outline or detailing.
"Men's" pattern designs are often abstracts, geometrics/mosaics, plaids, small repeated patterns --just reduce the heck out of the cane, faux granite/marble/lapis, etc., or simulated wood, wood "inlay," appliques, etc.
Of course, non-traditional men have even more possibilities . . . :-)
Themes . . . sports, occupations, dogs/pets, hobbies, computers, areas of the country/world, nature/camping, cars/boats/planes, gardening, science/math, poker/bridge, a project they worked really hard on, family memories, childhood interests/events, architectural details or structure, historical stuff/maps/symbols, and anything indicating motion! . . .
I don't know iff you sew or not, but for the men in my family I make grooming rollups and tool roll ups. My man loves them esp. the grooming one, he was forever losing his nailclippers and tweezers, so I got some striped fabric at a yard sale and made him a buncha rollups for his small stuff. It doesnt have to be striped, I'm just lazy and use the stripes for guide lines. All you need is sturdy fabric and some elastic or shoestrings. Heres a pic. http://img25.photobucket.com/albums/v75/dyabolica/satchets_022.jpg
That's a really great idea! One question though-I notice the pockets are different sizes for all the different items. Did you plan what was going in each pocket or just make random sizes?
i personally like the record bowl gift baskets. Make the bowl and then fill it with his favorite candy, drinks, gadgets and what not. And then wrap it up all cute with some cellophane. Everyone I've done them for love them!
for my boyfriend, i made him a trophy!
 i got an old one at a thrift store and took off the old label. then i made a new one that said "(Boyfriend's name): Kick Ass Boyfriend"  (you see it was karate trophy and the little figure was kicking - oh, so witty)  i also wrote him a little message in permanent marker on the bottom...i was gonig to paint it so it had his hair/skin/clothing colour but i ran out of time... anyways, he thought it was awesome and keeps in on his bedside table...   i think its a cool gift for anyone!
Thanks for your suggestions so far Smiley Was thinking about doing some magnetic poetry (idea blatantly stolen from an old post on craftster) but I haven't been able to find any magnetic strips/ magnetic sheets anywhere... It's not as if I have any old magnets I can vandalize, I really need to find some of the blank stuff to play with. Any ideas where to track down this? (Btw I'm from the UK so American shops aren't going to help me much  Sad )
It's not for his birthday but for our 1 year anniversary I'm going to try and do this-my husband played football all through high school and college and has about a zillion tshirts and things from it. So I am going to make him a football quilt.
fallenangel,
I don't know about across the Pond, but over here we'd be able to find either the strips or sheets at:
craft stores
office supply stores (sheets, for making business cards in a printer)
hardware stores
Good luck!
