ok, i can't believe how last minute i'm posting and since i only have like 2 minutes i'm not going to talk too much..
basically i found an ENORMOUS stack of national geographic at school..butchered them with a heavy heart and created this. all paper, not exactly the most creative material but hopefully you'll forgive me,  it's about 4 1/2 feet by like 2 feet i think, i already sold it so i can't provide exact measurements..

it's based on a comic i once saw which impacted me a lot, if you can't tell..  anyway if you can't tell it's a city turning into a monster that is eating the flowers..i find both the city and nature beautiful so it kinda represents natural beauty being consumed by artificial beauty..blah blah blah and other artsy stuff..hope you enjoy Wink

Wow. That's really neat looking! I can see you used magazine pics for the buildings, did you use them for the sky and clouds and flowers too?

thanks everyone!   Cheesy

yeah..it took forever to find the right shades of blue and white/cream and position them correctly to make the sky flow right..ugh...did i say forever??

a girl saw it right after i finished and sold it. she's redoing her room and asked if i would just paint a duplicate of it in black and white with red in the eye and flowers. she was planning to base her room around it..heh i should probably be working on that, oh well, i'm addicted to craftster  Roll Eyes Tongue

that would make a great children's book too!

kinda like Eric Carle! he's probably one of my favorite children's books authors..sigh he does beautiful artwork

That is effing awesome.
I am not a jealous creature, but I wish I had thought of this one!
Did I say that's effing awesome??

I'd DIE for a really quality photo of that to get a look at the paper detail... is it already out of your hands?

Wow. I have to try something like that.

AWESOME.

i don't have it anymore but, i did take some really nice pictures before letting it go, i just didn't want to ruin them by sizing them to work in the picture hosting so i used the ones i took as soon as i finished it.  i could easily get to it though for more pics if i wanted to..

lucky for you, i won't make you give me your life for them, just your email..  Wink

damn it, everytime i post anything on here i end up blushing for like the next week, everyone on here is too nice..   Smiley

Very nice work! I love the contrast between the ends of the piece- and how something like buildings can grow into an organic kind of monster- really a great piece!

yeah i also used torn out misshapen pieces on the left, and cut out sharp lines on the right to add to the contrast and the idea of free form vs structure but i don't think that shows that much in these pics  Undecided i also noticed that in these pics you cant really tell, but all of the cut outs for the buildings (with the exception of the windows) are pictures of cities.

This piece is absolutely stunning.  I'm totally blown away.  The blending in the the sky and the clouds is incredible.  Thank you for giving me something to strive towards in my own collages!

thanks everyone, there must be something wrong with because for some reason i felt guilty rather than excited when i found out i won  Undecided i must just be weird

congratulations!

thanks again, yeah, i started off doing collages a lot when i was younger, and then stopped because it reminded me of someone i know that makes collages who i didn't want to be like (looong story) but i just got over that recently and have started picking it up again, this is one of the first ones i've done though without using paint in a while

by the way kp, i loved your painting of you and your boyfriend, it was really very touching, it even made me cry a little. i also loved your collage and the meaning behind it too, i love when art work has real depth to it like yours does

oh, thank you.  craftster probably isn't the perfect place to post that kind of thing, but, as fascinated as i am with kitschy, i'm afraid i'm better at mushy.

i hope you stop feeling guilty soon.  if you hadn't won, i wouldn't have gone and checked out your piece, and i wouldn't be feeling all inspired to make some art as elegant as yours...

(i love your picasso quote, by the way)

Wow!! I love that picture! Wasn't it hard to make?

thanks! yeah it took forever because i shreaded the paper up into like quarter size pieces for the sky half and with matching up the colors, i worked on it for probably 1 1/2 to 2 hours almost every day for close to a month..bleh headache, but it's always worth it!

*quiet awe* omg, you are an incredible artist. I DID notice thedetails that the buildings were pictures of cities, what a wonderful juxtaposition of nature being swallowed by industry, technology and construction... omg I could gaze at this forever.  The person who bought this from you got a real treasure.  This is something that would have been perfect for a gallery wall or museum...
