My very first successful sewn garment:

The pattern is Simplicity 4546, and the fabric is surprisingly cool, considering that I bought it at Joanne's. I made it in about a day with my brand spanking new Huskystar that I got for my birthday. I know the whole circle skirt thing is not real original, but I'm happy that I made something, considering that the last garment I attempted to sew was a shirt for my brother: I laid him down on some fabric and traced him. That was about 20 years ago.

Any suggestions for a next step garment project?

That's very cute!  So how'd that shirt for your brother turn out?  That made me laugh!  I tried to do that with our dog when I was about 9.  I decided she needed a pair of pajamas.  Didn't work out too well though...

Your skirt is definitley awesome!  Just the right colors for me........

But the story about your brothers shirt!  I have to get out of here before I spit my drink all over the keyboard!  That is hilarious!

My husband thinks its a good idea........  Shows what he knows!

awesome skirt!  I totally see myself struttin in that w/ my ankle boots!

Another project might be a dress w/ darts and all.  I made one for my first ever clothing project (also first time ever using a pattern) and it was pretty easy.  I used a $1.74 wal-mart pattern marked EASY.  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=57123.0

Cool!! You're title made me think of Sound of music when the 'captain' askes if his children have been running around wearing nothing but old drapes.

i love joanne's.  this fabric proves my point that just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's crap.
