I've seen lots of Rent related items here, but I've hardly seen anything Wicked related, so I'm posting my tote bag.  Basically, I'd never used our sewing machine before, but I wanted to learn.  I thought a tote bag was the easiest thing to make that was practical as well for my first time, and since I was going to the national tour or Wicked at the end of the week (I just got back, it was great) I thought I'd make it Wicked themed.  The pictures are a little big; my apologies.  Here it is:

Sewn with black duck canvas, painted with acrylic paints mixed with fabric medium.

A close up of Glinda

And the inside, sort of a lime suede.

These pictures don't really show the color very well though.  For instance, Elphaba's lips on the bag are actually sort of a bright red on the bottom and a light coat of the red at the top like they're supposed to be.  You just can't tell Smiley  I actually found fabric of the exact same shade of green as on the real Wicked picture at Hobby Lobby, and I found the perfect green paint at Walmart.  They just look sort of dull and weird on the pictures.

I made it based on the Wicked logo/poster/cover picture:

Anyway, that's it.

Well thanks, but I actually had to free-hand the whole thing because I don't really know how to stencil... Haha.  I just took the cover out of my CD and put it in front of me and then in pencil drew it out on the canvas and then filled it in using paint.

I'm in San Antonio, so I just saw a showing in Dallas.  It's a pretty good cast.  The actress for Glinda, Kendra Kassebaum, did a good job but wasn't nearly as good as Kristin Chenoweth, although nobody really could have done a better job than Kristin Chenoweth, because she was absolutely perfect for the role, in my opinion.  Stephanie J Block did a great job as Elphaba though, even though she sang a little different.  It was a very good show.

Your bag turned out fantastic!!!! I had the same inspiration, but I thought I'd do it in layers of felt....I've bought the felt but that's as far as I've gotten. Now that I've seen your bag, I'll have to start on mine! I hope it turns out as nice as yours!

Thanks!  it was especially hard, because I didn't have any black paint so I had to paint around anything black... I don't suggest that, it made me much too nervous when painting the eye!
