What to do with my Archie Club sweatshirt?!
«
on:

Wheeee, it's my first post!
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for something I could make out of my mom's old Archie Club sweatshirt from the 80s. Here's a pic.

Oh, how I LOVE Archie!
Make it into a hoodie. Cut it up the middle, and sew in a zipper; then you can use other fabric (or another sweatshirt) to make a hood, and maybe cuffs and a hem-ish thing along the bottom, like trim, sort of (but not necessarily thin).

a hoodie is a good Idea!! I should try that with something... but for your archie sweatshirt(I love him!!) you can make a really cool pillow. Im gonna do it with an old pj shirt that just cant be worn anymore.

oh wow! you should...give that to me!!!
ok, seriously...I wouldn't do a hoodie, because then you'd have to cut archie's lovely face up the middle. the pillow is a good idea. if you actually want to wear it, just make it a little more hip. you know, take it in on the sides so it's more form fitting, maybe cut off the collar or shorten the sleeves to 3/4.

haha, that's so rad!
I really wouldn't do a zip-up hoodie because, as tamagotchi said, you'd be ruining Archie's sexy mug.
But here's what I WOULD do: Cut that nasty ribbing off the bottom (I hate that stuff! So unflattering!), and definitely take in the sides. Then I'd hack the neckline into a boatneck, and cut off the sleeves to 3/4 length, just a few inches below the elbow.
If you're super ambitious, or relatively confident of your sewing skills, I would take the whole thing apart at the seams (along the sides, shoulder seams and the arm seam -- but don't cut the sleeves in half, just open them up). That way you can take in the arms so they're not so baggy, and reposition the shoulder seams a bit so they're not all wonky. Take a tee shirt that you really love the fit of, and use it as a template. Just remember to leave seam allowances!!!
A huge bennie of that sweatshirt material is that it doesn't fray badly at all, so you wouldn't have to really worry about reinforcing the seams (although a short zigzag stitch would really help with strength). And you could leave the neck/bottom/sleeve edges raw, so they would just curl a bit.
Whatever you do, make sure you take pictures to show us the finished product!

I would combine a couple of the ideas above. I would definately take it in, make it a snugger fit. I would also do a zip, but I would set it off to the side, so you don't cut into Archies Face
It would cut a bit into the lettering, but I'd just repaint the zipper to match. I might cut the sleeves to make them short, too. Here's a crappy drawing of my idea
