This was my first attempt at an actual article of clothing requiring pieces to be sewn together.  I used Caron Perfect Match in Taupe for the main color, and Caron Simply Soft in DK Country Blue for the stripe.  No flames, but everything else is done according to the pattern.  It didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped and dreamed, but I am a perfectionist and I had hoped for and dreamed of machine-like quality.  As it is, it looks homemade.  But it should look homemade, right?  Here it is:

I bound off the neck too tightly the first time, so I had to take it apart and bind it off again, and now it seems like the neck is too big... some of the joints where the arms meet the body seem loose... the bottom curls up and there are sloppy stitches all over the place...

...but DH loves it, so I am happy.   Smiley
Mostly I am happy because I can finally move on to something else!!!

P.S., I love mattress stitching!  It is a bit of magic.

That looks great! Those colors look very good together. I'm currently working on this project myself, and it will be my first time seaming too, so I'm a bit nervous.

You're way too hard on yourself, it's great!  It looks as good as anything you might buy in a store, honest.  If only I could make sweaters... at all.   Lips sealed

Thanks, and you're right, it does look great -- from a proper distance.    Wink  Good thing my camera quality is not that great.  I should take some close ups of the shoulder seams and you would see what I mean.

I did block it yesterday, so the stitches are lying a lot more evenly.

I encourage anyone who can read a pattern to just jump in and try a sweater!  I was really afraid to try, and now I wonder what I was so afraid of.  This sweater only took me 2 months, and I was working on 2 other projects at the time.

Wow, it fits your DH just right! Smiley I'm glad you made this sweater sans flames so that the rest of us could get a better picture of what the sweater really looks like. You know? In the book, isn't the body all black? Now I see the details much better and I think you did a great job. Smiley

I'm almost done with my flame sweater (one sleeve to go!).  You're looks great!  It's inspiration for me to get going and finish mine- well, along with my husband's pestering.   Mine looks like the one in the book.  Even though it's black, I think you can see the stitches and the pattern pretty well if you're interested.

caselita -- yours looks like it is coming along nicely!  I can't wait to see how it sews up.  And I agree about men's sweaters being a lot of work... I figure after starting with a man's sweater, any subsequent women's garments I might decide to knit for myself should seem to take no time at all.   Wink

Thanks all for the compliments!
