I like the colors of your site, but I'll tell you, when your page first loaded, I was really turned off by your links at the top of the page. Things on Paint or whatever program that was definitely don't look professional. If I was a random shopper who happened across your page, I really wouldn't like that. Other than that, you have really good product. That's my only complaint about your page!

i really beg to differ with you.. i have a whole website based on stupid ms paint shit! (www.geocities.com/grossholes).. i think the paint program is a wonderful misunderstood program.. why does a website need to look professional in the first place? looks pretty dandy to me  :-D

why does a website need to look professional in the first place?
If it's just your personal website, it doesn't.  But if you're setting up a website as a shop, it should be professional looking.  Why?  Because the website is all that potential customers have to go by in evaluating you.  If it doesn't *look* professional, they may think that you don't run your business in a professional way, too.  And so they'll be less likely to trust you with their money and credit card info.  Just like if you had a store that was messy looking.  They may assume that if your website looks sloppy, you are a sloppy person who is sloppy in business dealings.

LuckyDuct, I think that particularly since a lot of your stuff is recycled/repurposed you need to give the impression that you are detail oriented and putting out a quality product.   Because if something made out of trash is done sloppily, it looks like trash rather than like a cool reinvention of   a consumer item, you know?  I think everything else about your site is great and has that polished look you need, but I agree with dahlea that you should change those buttons.

in all honesty, ive never gone to a website and thought "i dont like the way they didnt use a professional program to make the layout of their site, theres no way in hell im buying this stuff". thats kind of like looking at a person on the street, eyeing out their clothes, hair, and facial features, and judging them on their capabilities as a person.. i guess all around it just depends on the person.  the buttons are fun if you ask me, the only problem with them would be the fact that it was saved in a .jpg format which gave it that kind of dusty around the edges look to them.

This is probably just personal preference, but I think the colour scheme is a bit strong.
The problem with that is that the bright fuschia and other colours end up making all the photos look rather washed out and rather grungy.
If you want the colours of the products to stand out and look better, then I'd suggest a more subdued background.

I have never heard of that, unless the compression on the jpgs is really high and you're sacrificing that much quality for file size. Newer software can compensate by having specific "save for web" type options that cut down file sizes without quite that strange look.
What other options are there really? .gif has only 256 colours, .png isn't supported by most browsers, and many other options are just far too large in file size.

oh wow thanks everyone. Grassholes- best site ever! i was trying to go for that whole paint shop coolness-look, but i guess not everyone thinks its good. maybe by saving them .gif's or something i'll find a happy medium. and thanks everyone else, this really helps me!

i agree with melidomi ( i believe i spelled it correctly) it needs to look professional. potential customers judge your site when they first go on it.
if your selling things, its much more important.
and yes.. the color scheme hurts my eyes.. a color like fushia should be used to accent things / should be used sparingly...
just a thought

Hi! I think your products are real cute & look to be well made.
The pink is a bit strong. But personaly I like the buttons you made,Ii think they are cute & quirky ...it works for the product.

The 2 other thingds that i see are on the bottom of the second page there isn;t a link to the 3rd, & a lot of the purses don't have measurments listed.

I will admit, I'm also kind of turned off by the MS Paint graphics, but BELIEVE ME, i use MS Paint all the time, and it is a wonderful, yet misunderstood, program. It's my companion to Adobe Photoshop 7, and I use both of them often. I agree that a more polished look would make the customer believe the your maturity and authority as a creator and it would also reflect better on the quality of your bags. I love the bags, but I do agree that some look washed out because of the colours. Now, I wouldn't say to scrap the pink and yellow if you like it, because after all, it is YOUR SITE. I just believe that a white background against the images of your purses will complement the designs and colors in your wares better. Pink and yellow and bright colour everything you want, except for backgrounds around those images of your wares. Smiley Now I'm not sure if it's my place to say this, but I think that maybe cleaning up the spelling and language and grammar and whatnot will really clean up the site too and make people believe that you are a true businesswoman. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm heading into my 2nd year of University in an English-based area, I'm highly critical like that. So perhaps ignore that comment, unless other people notice that all the spelling and grammar errors are bothering them too, for one reason or another, and driving them away from buying your bags.

If you are processing orders through e-mail requests (which I see that you are) rather than through Paypal or any other such program, you should make it more simple. The simpler, the better. A form would be a great option. You can find lots of free scripts for mailing forms just by typing it into a search engine. Perhaps you could have a drop down menu with the names of all your wares, plus one for custom orders, and have a section for their comments or descriptions of custom items, and have their e-mail address there too. That way, they can simply fill out the form, press 'Submit', and they're on their way to having a bag from you! Forms are tricky to configure and such, but I'd at least look into it if I were you. People are lazy; the easier you make ordering, the more likely they are to order. Best of luck!

I think that it is fair.  I  would definately change the links.  Looking professional is very hard, but you have to in order to succeed.

The colors of your site blinded me.  I clicked away immediately and never even saw your product.  Shallow?  Perhaps.  True?  Yep.
Good luck with your business! Smiley

I like your colors!!  They actually work with the look of your purses (the strong packaging graphics with bold colors).  Probably the people who don't like the website colors won't like the purse colors either ... ?

wow, awesome.  totally not my thing, but awesome!  the write-ups you did are great & i think the website has a definite vibe to it.  so, yes, i think the colors are awesome, too!  i mean, i'm not saying i looove them, but it works.    Grin

hmm, that's the first time i've used a smiley-face.  i think you've infected me with your brightness.  oh, and those little blocks on the top & bottom, i wanna click on them!  maybe it's the whole video-game-ness of it all, but i wish they had rollovers or something fun hidden in them for weirdos like me...

lol i loved it  Cheesy you have a great since of humor. my one and only complaint was the pink text on the green bg where you have the little q&a thing.  my eyes kept doing this crossing/unfocusing/straining thing.

Hey, good job!  Your site looks a lot better and more professional now!  I really like it.

I agree with simply, though, the pink text on the green background is really hard to read, something about those two colors and their brightness just makes my eyes boggle. I like that the Q's and A's are different colors, but just change the pink (maybe even a slightly lighter pink would be easier to read?  just a thought).

Anyway, I really like what you've done with the site!

Oh, one teeeny tiny dumb thing, when you mouse over the 'about me'  button it says 'bam!' but on the 'about me' page it says 'kablam!'  not that it matters, but I thought you probably didn't know!
