I've gotten brave....not only am I going to shorten this dress to cocktail length (with my oh-so-novice sewing skills), but I'm going to try to make a matching purse (1st 1 ever!) from the left-over material.  I just don't know what style of purse would work well with this dress.  I bought the dress for a wedding, so whatever style purse I make, I'd like it to be not too tiny but not cumbersome to carry around all night either.

I'm pretty new here, but have looked at so many of the purses posted & am floored at the talent & creativity ya'll have!  It definitely gives me TONS to aspire to!  So I'm hoping some of you could offer some ideas on the style/shape/size purse I should do that isn't majorly difficult to make, and maybe point me towards a tutorial or 2.

Here's the dress:

Thanks for any suggestions/inspirations!! Smiley

Maybe a clutch with a wrist strap or a clutch like bag with a longer strap?

I'd love it if I didn't have to change the dress, but long ones just make me look like I have no legs.  Plus, I never have an opportunity to wear a floor length dress & will get more wear from it if it's shorter.

I saw the Purple Paisley Dorothy Bag (Amy Butler pattern) that someone here has posted (sorry I don't remember their name) and thought maybe I could do that with the leftover fabric from the dress...It seems simple enough & has a wrist strap on the back of it...and I really liked how they used a simple rhinestone brooch to attach to the front to dress it up.  What do ya'll think?  Is that a difficult bag for a beginner?

When you cut off the bottom section of your dress, let the pattern dictate your bag.  It may demand to be a square, rectangle, or even round bag.  You can adapt the Amy Butler or another pattern to the shape you need.

Or, here's a really easy bag

free pattern could be adapted to any shape
