Swap name: The Amazing Knicker Swap

Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Rachelyra

Sign-up date range: 10/01-10/14

Date to send item by: Nov 14th.

You will have the option to make a pattern for people to sew from, and there is a one week period for this - either post it on the web or PM that you've mailed it to me by the 21st.

You will need to send out all finished knickers by November 14th.

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 14, but each person won't be making 14 pairs of underwear.  I'm thinking to limit that to seven.

Non-U.S. participants absolutely allowed!

All ages allowed!

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders" list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:

Hooray for underwear!  Everyone will make or buy and embellish knickers, one pair each for seven different swappers.  Please please please take the time to make a pattern - I'd love to complete this swap without buying sweatshop panties.  If you don't sew, though, don't worry - you can go ahead and buy them.  This swap is open to both methods.  If you can, try to find some that are made in a conscientious fashion - check out http://www.americanapparelstore.com as an example.  They are pretty pricey, though - and don't think i'm down on you if you buy normal ones.  i buy normal clothes all the time.  I just love the craftster revolution in the way it neatly sidesteps this issue, and want to encourage you guys!  Thinking globally, acting, well, sometimes.

If you don't have a way to digitize your pattern, you can mail it to me and i will scan it.

keep it machine washable, please!

Let's see how many people sign up for this swap, and I'll figure out exactly how it'll work.  nobody will have to make more than seven pairs, though.  I'm sure that at least some of the people you send knickers to will send them back to you.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Is there any way you could extend the signup dates?  Maybe to the 20th or something?

I'll think about it.  the send-by date defeintely falls at an inconvenient time for me, but i was just going to finish my things early.  I wonder if we moved it if it would be better or worse.  It starts to butt right up against christmas (jesus! where did this year go?)

other opinions from potential swappers?

Or you could move it up and make it a quickie.  I could fit it in that way.  Cheesy Grin

Personally, I love the idea!  However, I'm really NOT a good seamstress... I tried making myself tshirt undies this summer... I think I made 4 pairs?  None fit right.  I wouldn't want to sew for others... although I second the idea that it'd be lovely to be sweatshop free.  I definitely can't make a pattern for others, if I can't make one for myself... and store bought undies are such a shot in the dark -- sometimes they fit, sometimes (usually?) not.  I don't feel that I'm a really strange size or anything either!  It's frustrating.  But yeah.  Anyway.  That's what prevented me from signing up.  That and I'm supposed to be focused on my last semester of college.   Roll Eyes

heh.

Those are all fine reasons.  what if the crafting period was longer?  Originally nushybum talked about swapping them out sort of round-robin style - was afraid it woudl take too long but it would make it easier in some ways, too.

Does anyone know of a cheaper "safe" source?  Maybe if we all do a bit of poking around we can find something that works but is cheaper than American Apparel - they sure are pricey.

And anyway, even if all ten pairs didn't fit you, SOME would be bound to... right?

ok, you make a good point about SOME fitting... I guess I just have a personal peeve about undies that don't fit right.

As for a cheaper source... maybe dharma trading co.?  www.dharmatrading.c om

they are a small, ethically-aware company that my favorite art prof at school frequents...  also, just FYI, great customer service and lots of fun art/craft supplies in addition to clothing blanks.  don't know why I didn't think of them sooner!

(if you aren't careful, you might convince me to do this swap...although it'd still be around $50 for me before shipping.  hm.)
