Hi all,
Anyone got any ideas as to how I can best paint or decorate leather? I want to liven up a leather jacket but don't really want whatever I use to crack when it's worn. I was thinking about stencilling...
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Beth

Ditto please -- I have a great leather jacket that I got for a song at an OxFam, but it is the WRONG shade of red for me.  I would like to darken it (towords a blue red) and decorate it, but I've seen so many crapily painted leather coats around, that I'm seriously intimidated.....

Help?

Tandy Leather sells leather dye in their stores and on line.  It looks like paint and I bet it will not crack.

So I stumbled upon the above site, which sells Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint in an amazing array of colors -- anyone tried it?

Try Jacquard@  www.jacquardproducts.com  They have colors that can be used on leather, fabric, most anything.  I have a booklet where they describe sealing your work with Future- the floor cleaner/wax.  Also you may use acrylic paints w/ textile medium or pretty much any fabric paint.  If you airbrush try Createx colors they are wonderful. www.createxcolors.com

Have fun!

In addition.

Leather
1) Clean leather by wiping with mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol.
2) For best results, lightly spray mist a base coat of Opaque White on areas to be sprayed.
3) Apply color, avoiding over saturation and excessive paint layering.
4) Allow colors to dry thoroughly before heat setting.
5) Iron for 30 minutes at 225using a protective cloth, or use a hot air gun at highest level for five minutes.
