confusion between what we have and what we are...

Everybody loves an instant gratification project.
Ignore the temporary tatoos; they attacked me this morning.

..and here's the pattern!

Needles:  size 13-15ish dpns (mine were made from dowel rods, so they're not a precise needle size.)
Yarn:  Red Heart Super Saver, baby.  Two strands knit together.
Gauge:  9 sts x 13 = 4"

This hat is knitted in the round.

Hat:
CO 44 and work four rows in k1p1 rib.
Knit 9 rows.
Row 10:  Knit 20, k2tog, knit 20, k2tog.
After this, you are going to k2tog on every row in the same 2 spots, thus decreasing by 2 stitches on each round.  Once you're down to one stitch, break the yarn and pull the ends through tightly.

Earflaps:
Pick up and knit 10 sts on the bottom edge.
row 1:  k2, p6, k2.
row 2:  p2, k6, p2.
3:  k2, p6, k2.
4:  p2, k6, p2.
5:  k2, p2tog, p2, p2tog, k2.
6:  p2, k4, p2
7:  k2, p4, k2.
8:  p2, k4, p2
9:  k2, p4, k2.
10:  p2, k2tog, k2tog, p2.
11:  k2, p2, k2.
12:  p2, k2, p2.
13:  k2, p2, k2.
14:  p2, k2tog, p2.
15:  knit, pulling the needle on every stitch so that the three stitch loops are several inches long.
Braid the three loops, tie a knot, and trim the end.  Cut the other end of the yarn and weave it into the earflap.
Count 10 stitches across the cast on edge from where the first earflap was picked up and pick up 10 more stitches.
Knit the second earflap.

Wear it!  Put it on your friends' heads when they're not looking!  Give everyone a turn to be a skiing pixie!

I've got 11 right now.  The best one is the eye in my armpit.
