thanks! it's nice to hear that it could be something besides OCD. i think we'll give her a while longer, and if it doesn't improve, then the doctor can talk to her....

this sounds like ocd to me as well. this requires psychiatric intervention if so. i know from experience with other obsessions in the past - as the md student said, neurotransmitters etc. low seratonin levels and stuff...anyway it's not really really about germs, my understanding is that that might be the outlet for other fears and issues, how they are manifesting themselves. probably not stating this well at all, gettin tired.
but please know that things like this often only get worse without help, some of which may be medication for the brain in conjunction with therapy - sounds daunting, but a friend had similar fears and unfortunately it progressed to the point where she had panic attacks, and didn't leave the house, before she got help...now she's a successful happy teacher and mom!!
