I think paper piecing is a quilting technique where you use a paper pattern that you sew onto to make blocks, then you remove the paper.

I think it's just a different method. There's an example.  Smiley

oh so it's just an easy way to use a pattern? like for the quilt blocks i made i just cut out the pattern as if it was a sewing pattern
but i did find it hard to make sure everything stayed the size it was supposed to be...so this helps compensate?

Paper piecing makes it easier to piece really complicated designs because you don't have to cut your fabric exactly the size/shape it's suppose to be and hope you actually get it right and match things up and it lays flat - instead you cut a piece of fabric big enough to cover the area, then sew on the lines and trim.  People do really complicated paper piecing with tons of little pieces - may take forever but probably easier than the other kind of piecing.  I guess it's also good for something with lots of skinny points, like a New York Beauty.  But for simpler blocks it seems like paper piecing would actually be more work than rotary cutting and old-fashioned speed piecing

If you are working on (or thinking about starting) a postage stamp quilt with 1.5" squares, I have scraps and squares to give away.  PM me if you're interested.
