I have made a matching baby scarf to go with the umbelical cord hat. I'm hoping this way the baby will actually keep the scarf on, and it won't slip off.  - Enjoy Smiley

Pattern

Banana squish scarf

Yarn: Jaeger Baby Merino DK - I used roughly half a 50g ball (but I guess any DK, light worsted weight yarn would be ok - if it's for a baby, just make sure it's soft enough to wear next to the skin)
Needles size: 4.5mm (or US 7)
Gauge: 28 stitches & 22 rows in pattern k2, p2 - NOT STRETCHED (but if you don't get it spot on, it's not terribly important)

Bearing in mind that this is a baby scarf, the final lenght is: 54cm

Instructions
Cast on 24 stitches (I used long tail cast on).
Work in ribbing (k2, p2) for 42cm ending with a WS.
On next row (RS), continue ribbing pattern and work as follows: work 6 stitches, bind off 12 sitches, work 6 stitches.
On following row, work 6 stitches, cast on 12 stiches (using thumb method), work remaining 6 stitches.
Continue ribbing as previously established for a further 12cm.
Bind off.
With a crochet hook (I used 3.5mm) work one row of double crochet (on in US single crochet), along the keyhole to give it stability.
Weave in ends & you're done!

Any questions, do let me know.

xx

Cute!  Very smart to do a keyhole scarf, too.  Much easier to stay on than a wrap around...and easier to loosen, too.

I specifically went to your website to look for details on the scarf - and hopefully for a pattern. (But I got carried away drooling over the Vintage Capelet you knit from Spun magazine.)

Any chance of a pattern for the scarf?
How you made the slash? And more importantly, how you figured out where the slash should go?

It's getting chilly enough here for start thinking about scarves.

Happy knitting!

Hey, ok, I hadn't actually written a pattern for this, but it's easy enough so I'll give it a shot. Have a look at my original post which I have edited to include the pattern and happy knitting Smiley xx
