I made this pillow for the zombie swap that's going on right now.  It's based on the movie Serpent and the Rainbow, which is about Haitian voodoo zombies.

This is a zombie bride.  She attacks you in your sleep.

The top

the bottom

and in the corner I made tassels that have skull beads carved out of bone.

It's funny how everything in embroidery becomes kinda cute, even if it's a skull on a pike.

If anyone wants to check out the super awesome zombie swap gallery, here's a link:

I read your manifestos and strange religious tracts.  You took me to your library and kissed me in the stacks.

HOLY!  I *love* this!  Now I have to run off and look up this movie, Serpent and the Rainbow you speak of.  Seriously, your partner is VERY lucky to get this!  What a great swapper and seamstress you are.  I can't wait to see what else you do.   Wink

By the way, did you embroider this on felt?

I saw this in the zombie swap thread, and stared at it forever!  Your details make the stitches look "painted" on.

Can we get a closeup of the front panel with the bride?  I want to see how you did the background!

Amazing!

Thank you so much everyone for the nice comments!

sewwabisabi - it's embroidered on muslin.  I see what you mean, though, it does look felty in the picture.

missbillie - I tried to get a closer picture for more detail, but it just looked blurry.  The soft colored parts are literally colored on with crayons.  I love vintage linens, and that's how they put color in those.  You just layer a lot of color on (but try not to let your strokes show).   Then put a sheet of paper over it and keep ironing over it until you're so bored you can't take it anymore (this is about 2 minutes for me  Wink).  Then throw it in the dryer for good measure, and ta da! permanent color.
