My package from Shoegirl was waiting for me when I got to the office this morning--what a lovely surprise.  She made me a very cool crochet scarf (rainbow, but not too rainbow... if there is such a thing) and a kickass totebag that I will be carrying to all my gay charity meetings from now on.  Thanks--I love them both!  I will take pics and post when I get home.

i received from colie!!

she sent a wonderful tote bag with an iron-on (?) on the front that says "It's ok to be gay" and it even has pockets inside!  i'm so impressed.

and a really lovely journal with rainbow colored pages and scattered inspiring quotes.  colie, i love the different pages you incorporated, and the binding.  if i may ask, how did you bind it?  a special glue on the outside of the pages?

and also, a box of colored chalk so i can take the love to the street!  i can't wait to use it!!

if you have pics, please do post.  i don't have a digital camera.

Hey, thanks for the compliments, I am so glad you liked it!

here is the tote bag i made, based on the shape and pockets of the bag I take to school everyday. I wasn't sure if you like green, but the gingham was just too sweet- it really reminded me of the cute fifties thing in the iron on transfer (I found the picture on the internet).

here is the book and the chalk. the chalk I got at target and just mae the outside more celebratory.

here is the side of the book (the pages are a rainbow! i had so much fun picking out paper)

and the inside

And snce you asked, I just happen to have a picture of the spine while I was glueing it.

I don't know if you noticed, sleepywalkin, but originally, I was going to do a sewn binding, so there are holes in the page. Anhow, that didnt work out so I used the trusty old rubber cement. The key is layers. If you only do one layer, it is actually more like a scratch pad where you can rip the pages off one at a time. Cool and useful, but not what I was going for. I ended up doing about 5 or six layers, which has held up for me well in the past.

Sorry for so many pics, but I had so much fun making everything!

Love the tote.  and the book!!  Does the rubber cement really hold the pages together?  Did you have to glue each page together one at a time? or did you just put glue on the book all at once?

Thanks! Yeah, the rubber cement really does work, as long as you pile it on super thick. As far as the process, I just clamped them all together and glued along the side.
