My website is actually a geocities one- I just have a domain name (for free) from .tk (www.dot.tk) because I was fiddling around one day- when I get a bit more proficient with web stuff i'll pay out for a 'proper' website but in the meantime i'll stick with geocities...althoug h there's been some interesting debates about the value of free webspace in some of the other threads - ie a lot of people saying they wouldn't buy from a free website because it doesn't look professional...but i'm rambling now- mainly because I start my new job tomorrow and I don't want to do all the stuff I need to get done before I go to bed...

Hello everyone

Yay! Great idea about starting up a wee network type thingy.

Hey Camilla thanks for bookmarking DSP Smiley Hope you enjoy visiting. I'm re-designing it at the mo going a bit more sophisticated. Then hopefully i'm going to turn my sights to get pesky miaow meow off the ground. On the subject of web hosting I pay for one which is pretty cheap but I had an idea that it would be nice to buy a larger one and build a kind of community of like-minded sites to share the hosting with web forwarding, domain names are cheap it's hosting that's penny pinching. Anyhoo I dunno i'm full of ideas but too lazy to make them happen  Roll Eyes

Good luck with you new job Smiley

Yeah I heard about the free website stuff ... but my website wasn't just going to be about selling things (not yet anyway!!), so I don't know yet how much this would affect me...
thanks for the link btw ... how come it's free? Wow!! lol
Thanks for your help =D

Ack...new job- sucked all my energy! I've got really limited internet access at the moment as i'm trying to get my house purchase finalised before I start paying out for broadband treasures...anyway I think the idea of shared space would be a good one. There's something like it (or there was) for bands and zines isn't there? I can't remember what the name is but I know it's a UK based thing...
I'll return here soon with a brain that works a little more clearly!

Is it diskant (www.diskant.net) your thinking of? They used to have a great big collective of bands and indie labels that they hosted as kinda ascociates. I don't think marceline and Co do that so much now as it took up too much time.

But yay a little collective of like-minded DIY crafty folk sounds like to tip top idea to me. Shall look into shared webspace. I think all you need do is have one large hosting package that the cost can be split between members then all people need do is buy a domain name which is only around a fiver a year!

Yeah- that's what I was thinking of. I feel so out of touch with the zine scene now days...I kind of 'grew out of it' and now am really pleased to find that there are still bunches of kids making zines. Even with websites people still make zines! Hurrah for photocopying!
Which reminds me- any of you guys who do zines we'd love to stock them in the shop: www.thingsfromhere. co.uk so people know what they're missing out on...

I've been trying to think of some other sites that are Uk based tht aren't craftster people but crafty all the same...
there's
http://www.polkadot.tk- Anna does cute cards that we sell in the shop
http://www.ladyluckrulesok.com- Leona makes earings and badges we sell in the shop
http://www.slumberparty.co.uk- Tom makes records and books we sell in the shop

I'll add more as I remember them- I'm going to add all the people we stock in the shop to a list here so you can add them if you want. And because i'm wide awake and feeling stupidly organised here#s the links that have been mentioned so far...

http://www.madebymilla.tk- my lameass apron pushing site
http://www.thingsfromhere.co.uk- our great shop
http://www.dosomethingpretty.com
http://www.miaowmeow.com- not there yet but maybe if I put it on here it'll magically appear
http://www.diskant.net
http://www.firebaby.co.uk

Any more thoughts on shared webspace/hosting?
