Occasionally, yes.  I don't have a Maru Dai (yet) and so I tend to follow the card method (or use an improvised maru dai).

i just recently learned the card method and i'm hooked. i would like a maru dai, but they are expensive for the ones i've seen so far, so i may try to make one.

Actually, I find the bobbins to be the surprisingly expensive part . . .

Where do you get your bobbins?  I cannot believe the prices I have seen online.

I've just improvised, using film canisters that I fill with something of weight.
