Occasionally, yes.  I don't have a Maru Dai (yet) and so I tend to follow the card method (or use an improvised maru dai).

i just recently learned the card method and i'm hooked. i would like a maru dai, but they are expensive for the ones i've seen so far, so i may try to make one.
