Hope this isnt too off the wall but....
I work part time in my landladys dance wear shop. Not only do I get to see all sorts of legwarmers and things that make me want to knit more...there is this wool that we sell for pointe dancers to put in their shoes, it seems to be unbleached (?) cleaned and carded wool. Since I get anything in the store at cost I am always really tempted to snatch some and try out felting it. before I did though, I wanted to see if any of you have used this sort of wool for felting...

oh yeah, and I can dye it and then felt it with no conflict between the two, right?

i feel like such a noob.

Hi jessaska, check out the information on wool and the following comments in the basic needle felting  tutorial http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=51271.0  that may be useful to you.

The wool you describe may or may not work well.  It seems to me if the wool stays light and fluffy in ballerina shoes it will not be a good chioice for needle felting - if it compacts into firm shapes in the sliper it might do well.

I remember it getting pretty compacted in my pointe shoes. You put it in your shoes to give your toes a little cushioning.

I'd say try to felt with it, and let us know what happens!
