Are you a fan of Miffy (the bunny)?

Well, I simply adore Miffy!  If you can believe it, Miffy turned 50 this year (yeah, she looks dang good for 50!) and I decided that I had to make myself something to commemorate her birthday.  I started playing with felt scraps and made an applique of Miffy.  Next thing I knew, I made a black corduroy tote for the applique.  Goodgrief.  Anyhow, here's the tote:

Of course, I needed something outrageously funky for the lining to balance the somber black corduroy:



Well, happy 50th, Miffy!  Thanks for all the good memories!

starlene, thanks.  I think I will try and do appliques of Miffy's friends too.  It might be fun to make a change purse, cell phone case, etc and adorn them with appliques of Miffy's friends.  Hmm...must add that to my list of things to do!

When I worked at a video store I used to play Miffy to freak out the customers. It didn't work as well as the Teletubbies, but I would occasionally get banned from playing them

patriautism, Miffy's a classic!  Though I'll bet the Miffy videos aren't as in demand as other mainstream movies    Teletubbies aren't bad, but Barney videos...now that would seriously freak me out!

The customers would stand there with their necks craned up to the screen, slackjawed and wide-eyed. The best thing to put on was The Monkees Head though. Suprisingly rated G and totally freaky.

Really?  That's neat.  How do you pronounce "Nijntje"?  I'm almost afraid to ask about the original names for Nijntje's friends (Snuffy, Poppy Pig, Boris, Barbara, etc.).

Hmm...it might be cute to embroider "Nijntje" on one of the straps and "Miffy" on the other strap.  Kinda makes it bilingual!  That way, everybody's happy!

Lol, good point.  Perhaps she has a tendency to mumble and speak in a little bunny voice?  Here's another question.  How can you tell if she's happy, sad, confused, or pissed off?!?  Still, you gotta love her...and there's a rather endearing quality about the simplicity of Miffy...or Nijntje...

aww miffy!! i used to love that show. except they dont have it on tv anymore.. or maybe its just on while im at school.. i seriously had NO idea that miffy is 5O. she is obviously of a superior race that does not age or wrinkle or sag, unlike us humans. my PE teacher is in her early 20s and moaning about droopy triceps. okay.. slightly off topic.. aaanyways. miffy rOcks!! and i love your bag!! the lining is super rad. great stuff.

It's adorable! I love Miffy! Though I never watched the show before. I have a Miffy pencil case that I got as a gift...I'd never heard about Miffy until that point. I love your bag! great job!

Miffy owns my life, therefore, I honored her in my username. My boyfriend calls me "Miffy" sometimes, too, cause when we first started dating, I'd take him to the book store after movies and read him the Miffy books.

"Nijntje" is short for "konijntje", like small children may say it.
Konijn = rabbit
Konijntje = little rabbit.
She has a last name too: Pluis (plush).

I'm getting all kinds of cool info about Nijntje, aka Miffy!  BeaG, thanks for explaining how the name was derived   I would never have figured that out in a million years!  The bunny has a last name too?  See, I didn't know that either   Now I wonder how the name 'Miffy' was derived...
