... and will it drive me mad?

I've sewn a few dresses and skirts and whatnot before, all pretty straightforward, and they get worn regularly so I guess it works. However, my weapon of choice is my mother's Singer that she got when she was 18 and is really beginning to show it's age.

However, I am in love.

I haven't made it, but I can see it won't be simple.  I'ts cut on the bias - this is what will make it fall beautifully on you, but it's a bit tricky.  The godets, if you make that version, will be challenging, as will the puffy sleeves.

If you decide to do it, plan on going very slowly and carefully.  If you take it a step at a time, you should be able to handle it.  Make sure the measurements match your body and be especially careful about back waist length - adjust it up or down if necessary.

You can find articlea on www.about.com or www.patternreview.c om on bias patterns.

It is a beautiful dress!

I have it, I've had the pattern for a while and the fabric too - just haven't gotten around to making the damned thing.  Would love to see how it turns out, though Smiley

Polkadotgraffiti - I'd love to see how it looks when you're done!

I think I'll leave off this until I have access to an overlocker (serger) and a machine less than 30 years old. Still, it is gorgeous... *sigh*

Thanks for all your replies!

Did you finish it?  I have been in love with this dress since it first came out!  I really want to make it, but I've got other things on the go.  Love to see yours!!!

<hijack>My Singer is... *checks copyright on instructions booklet* 54 years old.

My dad refuses to admit that his mother's sewing machine is no longer a usefull thing. I mean, it doesn't even ZIGZAG! Remarkably, we still have most of the little bits.
