Yet Another Placemat Purse...

But this one belongs to me!  I've heard of placemat purses and a quick search on this forum showed quite a few awesome ones.  Inspired by everything I've seen...I craved one of my own.  Voila!  Here's mine!



I found the placemat for 99 cents at a local discount store (rhymes with Pig Dots  )  No ribbon handles for me (too flimsy since I'm hard on my purses) - I strung up some beads on heavy duty wire and made my own purse handles.  Here's a close-up on the details of the purse:



I lucked out on my placemat find.  It came with a beaded border (which made my life a whole lot easier!).  And last but not least, a picture of the interior and a cameo appearance by my disgruntled mini schnauzer:

Right...that's exactly what I did.  The placemat had different designs printed on both sides and I had a hard time choosing which side should be used for the exterior of the purse

I really like your idea for the handles... how did you attach them?

andreamarie, when I strung the beads on the wire, I looped both ends for each wire strand and then sewed the looped ends onto the purse.

Great job on this bag. What a cute placemat !! I love the beading accent and the handle, too. How did you get a flat bottom on it, and what did you put in the bottom to make it hard ?

Also,(sorry for all the questions!) how did you sew on the straps, by hand or machine and what type of wire did you use for the handles. I'm  impressed, can you tell?!!!

Question...do you have seams on the inside or did you line it somehow? I tried a placemat bag but ended up making it the same as any other bag because i couldn't figure out how to make it look good with the seams inside still.  So much for the simplicity of a placemat bag.  Any ideas?
