Mr Crumpet lost his hat a few weeks ago and needed a new one, so I made this up for him, and have finally posted the pattern on my site:

The "That chocolate will go straight to your ribs" hat pattern.

He loves it. Cheesy

Brown and green? I wouldn't have thought of that.

Everybody likes pink. People who think otherwise are in denial.

how cute!  it's nice to have someone appreciative to knit for.

also, i really like the idea of using the self-striping yarn as an accent color.  i have lots of self-striping odds and ends lying around, so maybe i'll start using them for stripes on solid-color knits.  genius!

That looks great! I'd love to make one for my boyfriend he is always wearing a hat.. But he is allergic to wool.  Does anyone know what I might be able to use instead?

You should be able to use acrylic in the same sort of weight.  I used 8-ply yarn for the main colour, which is your average everyday yarn in Australia.  I think it's slightly lighter than worsted weight (it was a little lighter than the Noro Kureyon).
