I bought a black velvet hand to use in my Bazaar Bizarre craft fair display.  I'm going to use it to display jewlery (ring, bracelets on the wrist, necklces hanging from the fingers maybe).

But I'm not into the look of black velvet.  Can I spray paint it another color or will it come out mucho weird?  If not paint, what else can I do to it so it doesn't look so...department store?  Huh

That sounds perfect!  I hope I can find a cool one (or maybe revamp one somehow) -- then I don't have to worry about screwing up the actual hand display.

Fun!

Why not wrap the wrist and fingers with colorful grosgrain ribbon?  i'm sure you can play around with the effect and maybe pin the ribbon down so you can avoid glueing.

Orrrr...take a bunch of fake flower heads and glue them from the wrist up to the beginnings of the fingers and it will look like a hand emerging from a sea of flowers!!! don't forget to put flowers on the table and all around to really make it look like the hand is emerging from something!

Perhaps you could stamp the velvet,. It would be subtle but then again, it would let the attention be drawn to your actual art pieces....bust magazine had directions for it in their latest issue.  It might even be on the website.  it is VERY easy, all you need is a rubber stamp with a big bold pattern, and an iron!  Perhaps some starch of sorts as well?   Anyway you should check it out

Wow, more good ideas, thanks!  I'm not sure if it's real velvet or not so I might not be stampable (it might just be that very short peach-fuzzy stuff)-- it hasn't arrived yet.  Maybe I'll do a combo of the glove and other embellishments -- putting the embellishments on the glove so as not to mess up the actual piece?

I can't wait for this thing to come in the mail (I bought it on eBay) so I can try out some of these cool ideas and see what works.  I'm getting so excited for my table -- it'll be my first real display!
