This is my first attemt at making a sock monkey. I started with a pair of purple toe socks (it's a brighter color then in the pics). I cut the toes off & used 2 toes for ears.

I wasn't really happy with it when I was finished...it didn't really resemble a monkey. So, I decided to make it a monster, by sewing the toes on to the top of it's head & I changed the eyes from black to a light purple that matches the stripes & sewed eyebrows & nose.

I'm still not 100% happy with how it turned out. The tail is too fat & I might just remove it.

Maybe I'll stick with regular socks for my next sock monkey. Anyone made a sock monkey before and have any tips or suggestions for me?

I think he's cute!  Kind of punk rock with purple spikey hair.  Almost mohawk-ish even!

Aww love his little head! I'm on my fifth and I was wondering about making a toe sock one for my next one so I'm glad I can refer to this! The toes are brilliant!

I think minus tail would be better too, not sure why though!

I started off overstuffing mine and now make them quite floppy, it seems to work out better, if that's any help?

I love your little sock monster, just a bit different but just as cute.

Where did you learn to make sock monkeys? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Or does everyone else just know how?

Glad you guys like it...now to give it a name?

Phizzychick, thanks for the tip, I think I may have overstuffed the tail and that's the problem with it. I'll keep that in mind when I make my next one.

vampirebunny, I followed a tutorial I found here http://www.web-goddess.org/writing/tutorial/Image0.html
I'm sure you could also search craftster for other tuts.

i love him! i make monkeys too, but sometimes i like to throw a monster in the mix. i really like what you did with the toes. i have a pair of rainbow toe-socks that i've been trying to figure out what to do with...good call on the eyes too. you did a wonderful job - especially for your first monkey/monster.
