This idea is awesome! It could be a sub-category in the "More art Less Craft" section.  I like the idea of askng a bunch of people of different ages, lifestyles, and beliefs to give input on how they feel about my writing.

16candles, i know exactly what you mean.  i'll email stuff to friends and family but im always nervous that they're not being completely honest, and sometimes you just need that constructive criticism!

Isn't anyone worried about plagerism?

yeah, ive definitely thought about that...i guess it'll just have to be a trust thing.  in all honesty, i would probably be really careful about what i post, specifically for that reason, but i want feedback a lot, so i would just hope and trust in the honesty of people.

Well, you're a better man than I. It's one thing to share a pattern, give a tute, but to publish a piece of writing? Maybe I'm paranoid, but I wouldn't do it.

When I post my writings I do it to get feedback. Because feedback helps inspire me to write more. I get angry about plagiarism, but it's not like i'm ever intending to sell these writings anyways, so I can afford the risk.

About the plagerism concern...

all the other boards that I'm a member of that have literary boards have a disclaimer...that all works published on the site are copyrighted by the original author and that all plagerism etc will be prosecuted blah blah blah.  Never had a problem with copyright there...so perhaps having a child board with a legal notice or something would quell some fears?

legal notes will never stop anything Smiley everything someone writes is automatically copyrighted, no matter if it says so or not - if someone will steal something without the note, there's a 90% chance they'll steal it with the note...

and speaking of copyright, we have this new hilarious law in Sweden. To stop internet piracy (downloading movies, music, etc) we now have a new law saying that downloading of any kind of copyrighted material is forbidden and punishable. So, taking it litteraly, that means we're not allowed to view homepages (because the web works in the way that everything is downloaded and stored locally as you look at it) Roll Eyes
It's fun when people form laws about the internet without knowing the basics of it.

yes, I'm aware of all of that...but I know that at some of the places I post, this sort of warning has managed to protect the material posted on the site.

a lot of people don't know copyright law...and a forboding message will often twart any ideas of plagerising.  Or at least it has worked on other boards I frequent.
