That's fantastic.  I'm trying to find ideas for a bag for my personal effects that will fit inside of my son's diaper bag.  I like the ribbon rose.  How did you do that?

Grin thanks. its approx. 4 inches high n 7 inches long.

it took me long to reply. sorry for that, i was just busy in making a small tut. hope it helps. Wink

In the pic, purple is the ribbons right side n the grey, wrong side.

Take about 20 long, ribbon. Width depends on mood; I used 1 wide ribbon. I luv the tiny quarter inches ribbon too for cute fun effect.

1. Begin with the ribbons wrong side facing u. Hold the ribbon from the middle n fold in the left side downwards, as shown in pic.

2. Now fold over the right side to the left as in second pic.

3 4  Again fold over the ribbon (the one facing down) upwards (hope u get that). Again fold over the ribbon at ur left to the right n so on (keeping in mind; down, left, up, right) Ud keep doing this until u get a one inch layer.

Now ud pull one of the ribbon ends hanging; DOWNWARDS. (one of them would happily be willing to move down, the other would stubbornly stay in place, well if u try fidgeting with that, then it will have to come down, hehe )

As u pull down the ribbon end the rose would start taking shape. Once its completely pulled, ull have the rose ready in hand. Ta-da.

Any confusion, just ask. Smiley

Tried the ribbon rose.  It sorta worked - but a bit unclear about pulling the ribbon ends.  Mostly one pulled and formed the rose.  Pulling on the other one sort of undid the rose --- am I doing something wrong?  Or do the ends come out very different lengths.  Also it did not stay in place - needed a few stitches - is this usual?  Thanks so much.  It is a really cool rose shape.

no, ur absolutely going right. i have already mentioned that one willingly moves down. well, i made the rose twice again after reading ur post, but pulling the other one too formed the rose. well don't worry. ur aim is to make the rose, do it the way it helps. (sorry my english is so bad  Embarrassed )

Or do the ends come out very different lengths.
yes, it does come out different lengths.  Grin

Also it did not stay in place - needed a few stitches - is this usual?
yup, thats usual too. i normally tie a knot in the back. i used hot glue for the black one. n tied the purple one at the back. stitches, pins, glue; anything works.

Thanks so much.

Hi dia,  Oh you are wonderful.  Thanks so much for the specific answers.  I thought from the tute that pulling either end ought to work - so your English is just fine.  It is either me or the type of ribbon used.  But like you, figured if it worked at all for me it was a GO!!  Just wanted ones as beautiful as yours.  The hot glue is a great idea.

Again appreciate your sharing your work.

The instructions didn't mention one key point!
One end of the riibbon is meant to be longer than the other.
(i.e.1 in. wide ribbon by 24 inches long should be folded in half so that one end is 3 inches longer than the other)
It is the longer end that you need to pull. Make sure to gently pinch the bottom of the ribbons as you pull it,
tightly enough to keep it secure, loose enough to let the ribbon slide.
Also, depending on the length of the excess ribbon, you can cut it and use it as an accent on your project.
Ribbon roses are also a great accent on presents (holidays are coming) excess ribbon can be used on the present

wow, i reeeaalllly dont understand the ribbon rose tutorial! it looks so pretty, i really want one! is anyone willing to really dumb it down for me, perhaps with tons of reference pics?

ok, so after the folding down, left, up, right, when you go to repeat it, do you fold it onto the square thats already been made? so you get one very layered square of ribbon? if so, is the "one inch thickness" when you press down on the layers, or when they are poufy? (ie, not much pressure on them, just enough to keep them in a square) and after that... pull down? i dont follow this... how/where do you hold onto the ribbon square while pulling down? and i dont have one length longer than the other... wow, i really cant follow directions!
any help would be greatly appreciated here.

dia, your bags are beautiful, and so are your ribbon roses. everyone else seems to get your tutorial, i wish i could!

Sorry to drag up an old topic but I really want to make one of these ribbon roses but I can't seem to do it right!

I manage to get as far as having the folded ribbon with one end longer than the other but which ever end I pull on I just end up undoing the folding Huh

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong!

Thanks for any help Grin
