those look awesome,
any idea where i can find a wide variety of felt colors..
my walmart only has really bright colors  Embarrassed

My local Wal-Mart is the same way.  (And although I can't afford to not shop there, I believe that Wal-Mart is EVIL!)  Anyway, if Hobby Lobby exists in your area, I'd start there.  They have every color of felt imaginable and when I bought some a few weeks ago it was 7 sheets for $1.00, which I think might even be cheaper than at Wal-Mart and discount stores.  JoAnn Fabrics also has a nice selection, but it seems to vary every time I visit.  Good luck finding the colors you want!   Smiley

We don`t have a Joann`s here but there is a hobby shop that I totally didn`t think about...I`ll have to check it out.
Thanks!

I haven't found a wide variety of colors for the cheaper felt...anywhere.   I've tried Jo Ann's (decent selection), Pat Catan's (also decent selection), Michael's (half-way decent) and of course, Wal-Mart (like you said, bright!).  I checked online and found a website that had a pretty good selection of wool felt:

http://www.ericas.com/fabric/woolfelt.htm

They had colors that would make good donuts.  It's definitely more expensive that regular felt but if you're only making a few, it might be alright.

Thanks for all of your kind words and compliments!  Making these felt donuts was truly the most fun I've had doing any kind of craft project in years!

I did have an awkward moment when a co-worker ran into me at the craft store when I was buying supplies and she asked me what I was making.  When I said "felt donuts" I got a really strange look in return!   Undecided  It's nice to have a place where people actually appreciate these things!   Grin

At the risk of repeating what others have said...
those donuts are amazing!  So clever, so well done, and such a thoughtful gift for your friend.  Can you get a donut box from the donut shop that your friend likes/liked for the presentation?  I also loved the idea that someone posted about adding vanilla or chocolate fragrance [somehow].  Way to go!
