Well in true unorganised fashion, I didn't photograph the skirt before I took the scissors to it, but basically it was a straight-ish black woollen pencil-esque thing with a lovely red and green floral design embroidered on the front. I only wore it once, because the shape was really unflattering! But the embroidery was so pretty I couldn't sell it or throw it away, so I decided to turn it into a great big slouchy shoulder bag, which will be really useful for when I move to Ireland next week for uni!

I used the shiny lining of the skirt for the lining of the bag. The waistband of the lining is basically the top of the bag, so the zip from the waist of the skirt creates a nice big pocket out of the front of the bag!

Here's me going sew-crazy after hand-sewing the entire thing in about 2 hours with no break  Tongue (my mum's machine has broken)

The bag is black - the 2nd pic had more flash and looks grey - but I left it like that so you can see the zip detail.
I made a tutorial Smiley

If I could I would shrink myself
Sink through your skin to your blood cells
remove whatever makes you hurt
but I am too weak to be your cure.

Yeh, it would work with anything really, as long as you have enough fabric!! Also you might need to line the shirt if it's quite thin material.

Something I forgot to put on the tutorial is that when I finished the bag, I then made a ruched effect at the top of the two side pieces (where the strap is attached) by sewing the two top corners of the side pieces to eachother...so if you look at it from the side, it is a sort of elongated triangle (point at the top) rather than a rectangle.

This just makes the bag a nicer shape, really, and also means that the strap fits better.
