k this is going to sound odd. but i made this pin cushion today because i have one that is shaped like a chicken and i feel back sticking pins into him. it makes him look like a voodoo chicken and that makes me sad  Sad

so i made this up today a la penny rug style and now i have a guilt free pin cushion, and its pretty cute too if i do say so myself.  Tongue

not super special but i've noticed a lack of posts with pictures this week (possible everyone else had finals too) so i 'm celebrating being done with school till september and craftyness in general.

oh and its made out of felt thats why it's radioactive looking..hehe
enjoy

That is the sweetest!! Love the colours! I think I'd feel guilty about putting pins in that one as well, though.  Grin
I can't remember who without checking, but someone commented on my stitching on the wrist bands, (might have been you...) but girl, that stitching of yours is perfection portayed!!!

about sticking pins in this one. i told my boyfriend the chicken thing and he laughed at me and then when i said that this one was too cute to put pins in that might need to make another, he though i was nuts Tongue

Very cute! I know what you mean about the chicken. I love the lady bug pin cushions but couldn't bear to constantly prick it with pins.

I think there's a few threads about crafting for guys (or was that on glitter a long time ago..) but I know what you mean. I keep making him stuff I think he'll like and he likes it a lot because I've made it, but he doesn't necessarily use/wear it... Think T-shirts are the only thing he really appreciates, and especially the ones I make him decide what he wants on them and then I design and make them... Makes him feel part of the whole creative process I think.  Awwhh, bless their little cotton socks. Wink

That pin cushion so adorable! I wish I could blanket stitch that nicely!

As far as guilt free pin cushions, this is my favorite one I made. It isn't an original idea, I actually got it from Martha Stewart Magazine, November issue I think...

I like that is so portable. I use it as my on-the-go pin cushion.

Too many pin cushions could be a problem, unless you started giving them away...

Addicted to handbags, huh? I am addicted to fabric. My studio has piles and piles of fabric...

My boyfriend thinks I am nuts.

i'm trying to organize mine as we speak. its crazy nuts. i live in a bachelor apartment and the crafty/sewing is taking over. i have about 5  big tubs worth of fabric plus tons of other crafty stuff. i've gotta start making stuff to get rid of some of it. i think i have enough to last me till i'm old and wrinkled...hehe

i can't wait to move so i have a studio..i'm jealous

The advantages of a two bedroom apartment. I took over one bed room, and my boyfriend has the other. We are both artsy people, and we sleep in our livingroom so we have space to make stuff.

Sorry, I got sorta off the thread ouf cute pin cushions.

Back to the topic at hand...

What kind of thread did you use? It looks thick like embriodery floss...

that's a super cute pin cushion.
And I know what you're saying about too much fabric. I have about 10 huge tubs in the basement full, plus two bookshelves full, plus a couple of dressers full. I work at a fabric store and I have a fabric purchasing problem to say the least.

whoa! 10 tubs of fabric!!! makes me not feel as bad..hehe i work at a craft store so that doesn't help my addiction at all either.

oh and for the blanket stitch i used three strands of embroidery floss i usually do two for my other stuff. like the block i used for my avatar (or whatever its called) but i figured this needed to be held together more cause it was being stuffed.

i'm not sure what you are supposed to use but i just used leftover poly quilt batting. basically the same stuff you would use for stuffed animals except its flat.  might not be the right stuff but works for me.

My squeeze is the same way. I'm just happy that he doesn't mind walking through the aisles & piles that are in our apartment. He knows I am happy as a clam and I think that's what counts. I just whistle & hum and do what I have termed my "CRAFTY GOODNESS."

That is one nifty pin cushion!! Love it SmileySmiley

My youngest daughter learned how to sew making pin cushions and let me tell ya some of them were "quirky" but she has a handle on it now and they are quite wonderful.  I read somewhere that sand and pencil shavings (from a pencil sharpener)  and/or whood shavings are good to put in pincushions.  Supposedly it helps keep the pins/needles sharp. She uses a combo of those things with a layer of fiberfill.  Sand, fiberfill and then mostly shavings and some sand for top layer.

That is the cutest pin cushion I've ever seen.  I use to have a puppy dog pin cushion.  I though it was cute but then it started to fall apart and I felt bad for it.  I killed it.  Sad  Anyways,  I'll have to make a nifty new pin cushion.  Tongue

That's totally awesome! Someone gave me a mouse pincushion and I felt exactly the same way about it. Now I'm just using one of those tomato pincushions, I have to get around to making myself something cooler.

That is so cute Grin I want to make one or several!! I just have a couple of questions-
Did you use embroidery floss? and What kind of filling did you use? I've heard of people using all kinds of different stuff so I was just curious as to what kind you thought worked best. Smiley
