Lion Brand Magic Stripes basic sock pattern

I started knitting these socks and I'm finding that I'd rather make them ankle length. In the instructions, it calls for a 1 inch 1X1 rib pattern and then about 5 inches of ss. I was wondering if I shorten the ss portion and then carry on as normal?

you can definitely do that! just work the leg (ss) as long as you want, then go on to the heel.
