OMG, thank you so much for this recipe. While I was in Australia, I got addicted to butter chicken, but I haven't seen ANY around here. I'm going to make this as soon as my mouth heals and I'm allowed to eat solid foods again.

Oohh, I got all the ingredients today. Went to 3 stores looking for garam masala, and I ended up finding it at Safeway of all places! Tomorrow I'm allowed to eat solid food, so after driver's ed I'm going to make this. I'm so excited to see how it turns out!

Oooh....

I'm an indian who grew up in thailand and never learned to cook till I left home to come to college in the US. Indian restaurants just don't cut it for me, since the food doesn't compare to my moms. And much as I cook, I never learned to make indian food, nor had any desire to - I get it now and then from assorted relatives, and thats enough for me.

But butter chicken is my favorite - enough to make me want to learn. Thanks for the recipe.. I'm going to have to stop at my mom's on the way home to raid her pantry for any of the spices I don't have yet - though I think I have most.. I use them in my regular cooking to add indian influnces to 'american' foods!

Yummy.... I'll post how it turns out Smiley

Jazzybee -- when you say two cans of tomato puree, do you mean 14 oz cans or 28 oz cans? Just want to know what to buy before I make this.

Thanks.

well it depends on how much gracy you want in your final dish. i like alott of gravy so i can eat it after a couple of days with rice after the chicken pieces are all over...so i used onw 14 oz and one 28 oz....but normally i think two 14 oz should be fine.

I made this recipe for dinner a few nights ago. We served it on rice with mini poppadoms and my fiance loved it. He said it had the right amount of spice and was even better than a bought one. I have been looking for a good butter chicken recipe everywhere and this one is the best.

Yay!  Can't wait to make this at home. I love ordering this when I go out to eat.

(And I live on Devon Avenue mentioned upthread--only east of all the fun Indian neighborhood).
