Hi, I removed a dishwasher that had a wooden countertop surface.  I am going to put my mini-fridge there and just a wooden insert for a countertop and decoupage vintage kitchen ads from some old mags I got from the attic.  Now my question is this.  Could someone tell me the name of a finish I can use over my decoupaged ads that will protect them, in other words render the surface waterproof? I hope I inserted this question correctly, this is my first time on line.

You may be all done with your project by now, but this is how I'd do it....Sand the surface with a fine sandpaper, use polyurethane or marine varnish (they sell it at home depot & lowe's) to stick the pics down and then a layer over them. Wait however long the product says and put a few more coats on. If you lightly sand between coats, it will have a nice, waterproof, heatproof surface.

i've also seen people put a clear piece of...acrylic? plexi-glass?...on top of kitchen tables. they'll have a tiled table and then put a sheet on top to protect it. i'm not positive how heat resistant it is, but if it is that might work on top of your stuff.

share when you're done! i'm now considering the same type of thing!  Smiley
