Tutorial: easy peasy tote (with pics)

AModernMantra, So it looks like you didn't use that tutorial to make this tote.  Did you just fold the lining and sew it together with the outer bag?  I'm use to seeing it done the other way, pulling the outer bag outside the lining. 

Can you explain how you attached your lining to the bag?

Here's the bag I made - my first. It's got a drawing my daughter made of her and her little brother.

We gave it to my MIL for her birthday.

Hope you like it eventhough it's faaaaaar from being perfect

So I cut out my fabric and I'm completely stuck as of step 5. This is only my 3rd sewing project so that's probably why.

Instead of using interfacing I have just used my fabric (doubled up). If I can't figure this out soon I'll just pick up some interfacing tomorrow and make 2 tote bags.

Ha, ok got it done. I had really no clue what I was doing but managed. 3rd thing I've sewn!

As you can see there is no liner and you can see raw edges. In time, I will learn how to make liners.

Hi all.....i was just thinking of making this bag but altering it a bit by adding a flap tp make it a messenger bag...( of course the handles would be on the sides) does this sound doable to you all? that way its sorta a 2 in 1 pattern..what do u think?
ps,, i ve made other totes, bags etc..but haven't tried one with separate side or bottm pieces..does the bottm come out OK looking after its sewn..thanks for any advice...
