ok so its actually a wooden box with an etched plate on the top, but still.

I bought the box at Ben Franklin, and then nailed the plate to it.

I made the plate by photoetching it, there's a tutorial at http://www.dadahaus.com (under the articles section). I took a picture of my friend's dog and then used the "color halftone" filter in Photoshop to get a purely black-and-white (no gray) version of it. I transferred that to the metal and etched it using Ferric Chloride, and then after I cleaned it up I used liver of sulpher to blacken the lower areas of the image.

Fun stuff Smiley Everyone should try it.

That came out great--and thanks for the tut link!

OT--How do you like your shopping cart?  I've been looking for one for my site, but I don't like the way most of them look.

my shopping cart (osCommerce) is good for the price. It's free.
It is a PITA to set up, requires lots of monkeying with to get it working right, and some knowledge of HTML/PHP to get it customized. Once it's set up its great, but I cursed for many hours trying to understand and configure the damned thing.

I was just trying out oscommerce!  I have had so many problems--just logging in and trying to access my pages from the administrative window there were glitches.  It added "20%20%/" to every page address so I had to go and manually remove that, and then the page would load.  I did learn how to fix the php files so that stopped happening now.

I don't like the three-column page layout that oscommerce comes with--that's one of the things I liked about your set up.  I'm pretty good with html, but I'm just starting to work in php.  (The error above was my first view of it.)  I figured out how to empty the columns, but haven't gotten to figure out how to get rid of them yet.

I guess I'm doomed to put in the hours and cursing myself... Thanks for the info.

yay! i am a printmaker, and i've taken a digital printmaking class, so we made plates, but then printed them. I am always thinking that the copper plates framed on the wall would be as cool, or in some cases cooler, than the print. i am so glad you used the plate, lol.  We had to use a large, large machine to expose the plate to light, and photo-sensative film, i will have to try your way. it could be a lot easier, and less machine intensive. lol
