ok so its actually a wooden box with an etched plate on the top, but still.


I bought the box at Ben Franklin, and then nailed the plate to it.

I made the plate by photoetching it, there's a tutorial at http://www.dadahaus.com (under the articles section). I took a picture of my friend's dog and then used the "color halftone" filter in Photoshop to get a purely black-and-white (no gray) version of it. I transferred that to the metal and etched it using Ferric Chloride, and then after I cleaned it up I used liver of sulpher to blacken the lower areas of the image.

Fun stuff Smiley Everyone should try it.

my shopping cart (osCommerce) is good for the price. It's free.
It is a PITA to set up, requires lots of monkeying with to get it working right, and some knowledge of HTML/PHP to get it customized. Once it's set up its great, but I cursed for many hours trying to understand and configure the damned thing.

I was just trying out oscommerce!  I have had so many problems--just logging in and trying to access my pages from the administrative window there were glitches.  It added "20%20%/" to every page address so I had to go and manually remove that, and then the page would load.  I did learn how to fix the php files so that stopped happening now. 

I don't like the three-column page layout that oscommerce comes with--that's one of the things I liked about your set up.  I'm pretty good with html, but I'm just starting to work in php.  (The error above was my first view of it.)  I figured out how to empty the columns, but haven't gotten to figure out how to get rid of them yet.

I guess I'm doomed to put in the hours and cursing myself... Thanks for the info.

yay! i am a printmaker, and i've taken a digital printmaking class, so we made plates, but then printed them. I am always thinking that the copper plates framed on the wall would be as cool, or in some cases cooler, than the print. i am so glad you used the plate, lol.  We had to use a large, large machine to expose the plate to light, and photo-sensative film, i will have to try your way. it could be a lot easier, and less machine intensive. lol
