I'm making a chunky knit scarf for the up-coming harsh winter, i used stockinette which as i now realise was a big mistake because it rolls up ( hey i was fed up of just plain ole garter stitch). I'm aware that i could make a border of garter stitch around it- but i have no idea how to do it.
All i can think of is ironing- and lots of it- any ideas that'll work- plse help- it looks so good when it's held apart!  Smiley

Pick up stitches around the outer edge, 3 stitches on evern corner stitch.  Use a long circular needle to do this.  Then knit around teh outside with a garter stitch .  I would garter stitch for about an inch then bind off loosely.  HTH Smiley

There is video that shows how to pick up stitches here:

http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/misc.php

It's about 1/2 way down the page. I find this site really helpful! It's my reference for every question!!

Good luck!

This site has a good explanation.

I would try to explain but I think the stitch guide is pretty straight forward!

Are the sides or the bottom rolling up? The sides of mine were doing that, so on the last stitch of every row I slip the stitch as if to knit (or slip it as if to purl on purl rows) This created  even, no-rolled edges to the scarf. If the bottom is rolling up, try casting on with a needle one size larger then switch back to the smaller needle, sometimes cast on stitches are too tight which causes a roll-up.

Another idea is to crochet around the edge.  That should stop it from rolling.
