My son Wills and his Great Grandda made this for me for mothers day last year, its made out of tin cans, bottle caps and and an old bike inner tube, I hang him in my back yard, I love him and I think the rust gives him character...Hes a cowboy cause Granddas a retired rancher, and is teaching my son about the depression and making do with what you have....you should hear some of the stories, the communal ham bones my fave lol.

I love his hat!  And his name!

The Martha Stewart kids magazine recently had a story on robots made from stuff at home.

What a wonderful gift..and a great wayto bond

I'm not going to go off on a huge speal here...but I often wonder how well I would have done during the depression.  Sometimes it feels like I buy stuff just to buy stuff...Crafting has made m much better about this, I now try to repurpose as much as possible.  However, I still have too much stuff

I'm really inspired by the robot so cute, so clever, and a lesson that great things don't have to have a big price tag...okay I'm going to stop know I'm making myself sick

So cute! Funny thing though, is my dad made one of these like 3 weeks ago and he looks really similar. No cowboy hat though, heh.

Awesome robot - what a great mother's day present! I love the story behind him, too. A lot of love in that gift.

It is so great when something someone makes out of what is on hand turns out better than what you could buy at the store.  Thanks for sharing and thanks to great granddad and your son as well.

wow...how ironic I was just cleaning out my closet and I discovered this tin female robot my grandpa made for me when I was little. It looks similar to your grandads creation, but painted pink...(and a little red tin heart glued to her chest.) maybe I'll post her, and I shall call her " Marle, the bighearted tinbot..." Cheesy
