Good idea, though some of the "characters" are a little PC-questionable.

I would feel so bad sticking pins in them!

(I'm one of those people who can eat a steak but not a bunny-shaped chocolate. Can't bite the head off. Stupid, I know. XD)

Very cute though.

Besides shredded rubber (ick?!), it says to use old nylons or cotton. I think stuffing used for pillows or soft toys would be fine, as long as it was stuffed really tight.

you could stuff a nylon with rice, it would give it a good heft, and you would be less likely to lose pins inside

If I am thinking if the right stuff, shredded rubber was a common thing to stuff toys with back then.  It's more like shredded foam than rubber - like the stuff that cheap carpet pads are made of.

I was afraid I'd offend someone too, and I'm in Australia!
Yay for you for being so into Civil Rights.
I was kinda suprised nobody objected to the "native". I thought, hmmm it's a sign of the times, people are afraid of being seen as "politically correct" kill joys or something.

i saw in a cross-sticht-along where someone mentioned the lack of pc-ness of their "native" pattern. it was still cute.
