I was wondering if anyone has started or knows of any craftin collective meaning a group who got together and rents a shop has their stuff there and keeps all their profit shares the rent.  Maybe offers lessons etc...

In the diy spirit....

Anyone in Mass interested in starting this?

I don't know anyone that has done that, but I do have a dream. I want to open a gallery/comfy coffee shop/studios for rent/classrooms in a gigantic old warehouse. It'll probably never happen, but it's nice to dream.

there is a place kinda of like that here in kc called eclectics. they each pay a membership fee to cover rent, utilities, advertising, packaging, etc. and take turns working shifts in the shop. the space is small but packed full of wonderful handmade goodies - felted hats, paintings, jewelry, junk sculptures...they even keep a xmas tree up year round with lots of fun ornaments and trinkets on it. they all collaborate on funky and fabulous window displays (half the fun is driving by to see what the window will look like next) and decorating a room in the designer showhouse each year. they don't have enough space to offer classes but everyone that works there is friendly and helpful and LOVES to talk crafts. since you never know who will be working, and since everyone that belongs does something different, the more you pop in the more you can learn. i think it's a great idea - i say go for it!!
