Hi all I thought I would post one of my favorite vintage craft books, making clothes from towels...I make the toddler bathrobes as gifts and they are always well recieved, esp. here in hot as hell Las Vegas. Great for covering that delicate skin when out of the pool.

the shampoo cape just kills me, I mean how gross is it to wash your hair but not your body lol...or to wash your body and not your hair...my granny gets her hair done (can we say helmet hair
) and only washes it like once a week, the very idea makes my head itch..but then I'm just a tree lovin hippy with to long hair ( wonders how a woman can have hair to long though).

as far as thread goes, I would think a cotton covered polyester should work fine, but I always zigagged the seams to cut down on the raveling of the terry cloth...now I have a serger and just use that...I love my serger, 10 yrs now and it still seams like a honeymoon...

Oh my!  The baby-bathing towel apron is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen!  If my baby weren't old enough to need her own little bathrobe, I'd be making that in a heartbeat!  In fact, I've got a good friend who's due in october, and in addition to the knitted sweater and pants, the crocheted camo and hunter orange baby blanket and the scrapbooking supplies, she might just get one of those, too!

Made my daughter a bathrobe using towels a couple of years ago, I did use a pattern but it would be really easy to make without one.  And the best thing was that there was no hemming to do.

Great patterns!  I just wish that the instructions came out clearer!  Akitas are wonderful dogs - our beautiful Toyoshi (of blessed memory) was a rescue and an angel, even got along with our 2 cats!  She passed away earlier this year at the age of 13.

Oohh... neat!  Grin  I love stuff like this. Hmm... now I just need lots of towels.

Dyabolica.....about your comment: "the shampoo cape just kills me, I mean how gross is it to wash your hair but not your body lol...or to wash your body and not your hair..."

I have to say that it isn't that disgusting. For example, I wash my body every day but I wash my hair every other day because it's healthy to have some natural oils in your hair. When I wash my hair every day it gets too dry. Anyway... I don't mean to be rude, I just don't want to be considered gross!

i think i saw one of those towel dresses at the local salvation army once.  it was absolutely hideous.  maybe it was used as a beach cover thingie or something.  but the idea of wearing a towel as a dress just seems silly to me.

These Patterns rock!! I don't think I'd ever make one, but I still think they're brilliant- thanks for sharing Cheesy I'm with the rest of you on the hilarious waists lol. The towel apron (for bathing baby) is really funny- but quite a good idea.

Hugs,

Caterina

I just love all the patterns, I am totally going to have to make the baby bathing towel. Now to just find lots of towel's, I'll have to go hit the local $$ store to find some.  I'll post a pick once I'm done.

I have some awesome 70's towels from my Grandparents. I think I see some crafts in my future! I was thinking the hair cape would be an awesome hair DYEING cape! I usually dye in the nude (LOL) cause I'm scared of spillage!! Back in the day women had those elaborate roller sets with a ton of aquanet, they probably lasted a while! My Grandma did the same thing!! I think they did it seperately from bathing, so back then it was 2 projects altogether.

I'm digging the ballet slippers. You could dust the floors with your feet and then wash them, LOL!

I made the bikini/bra top (and I also linked to this post!).

I used some orange washcloths lying around the house and red scrap gross grain ribbon for the straps. You can read about my adventures with this pattern on my friend's vintage craft and collectors' blog: http://swapatorium.blogspot.com/2006/07/tacky-terry.html

I know this is an old thread but I happened upon it while searching for something else and the pics that i'm assuming were once there, no longer are. i really wanna see this vintage towel amazingness, and possibly make something, i have a few friends in arizona that practically live pool-side and often joke about how they need clothes that are made out of towels since they're in a towel more than their clothes. so i'm begging you to repost those pics pleeeeeease
